The Bike Guy https://www.thebikeguyonthegreenway.com Your Greenway Bike Shop Tue, 12 Jun 2018 15:16:14 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.7 Catrike, TerraTrike, IceTrike, Sun Trikes: How do you decide? https://www.thebikeguyonthegreenway.com/2018/06/12/catrike-terratrike-icetrike-sun-trikes-how-do-you-decide/ Tue, 12 Jun 2018 15:09:13 +0000 http://www.thebikeguyonthegreenway.com/?p=213 More than ever, people are turning to recumbent trikes instead of conventional bicycles.

We are the recumbent dealer our area (Raleigh, Wake Forest, NC) and its encouraging to see how many people are riding recumbent trikes now. We are seeing folks from every age group, neighborhood and all walks of life coming into our store to pursue these trikes and they are really making an impact on the way people ride.

We now stock more trikes than ever and they are flying out the door. It’s kind of like we cant build them fast enough.

And we get a lot of questions though, about what these trikes are and how to choose one.  So, it very few words, I’d like to offer a brief explanation of the major differences among them.

We offer four brands that vary according to use and quality level:

Sun RECUMBENTS: This is the entry level. It is for the entry level budget and the entry level rider. They are very comfortable, fun and easy to afford.

Although Sun is the entry level recumbent , we have seen a very loyal following with this brand. And the people who own them, love them.

TerraTrike RECUMBENTS: The most comfortable trikes in the world -that’s it. If comfort is the chief concern, this is the brand for you.

TerraTrikes have helped us fit a lot of people into recumbents that had specific needs or comfort considerations. Post surgery, back and neck issues, joint replacement and balance concerns are among the reasons many folks choose TerraTrike.

To be fair though, Many cyclists choose these for their performance abilities. Some TerraTrikes, Such as the Rover and Rambler All Terrain, are at the lead of the market in their categories.

Catrike RECUMBENTS: Agile, high quality recumbents oriented toward people who ride for speed and distance. These are specifically made for riding pavement. Where other brands do well in diversity, Catrikes are made with focus. Excellent handling, fine-cycling recumbents.

Catrikes also have several amazing products at the higher end of their product line such as the Dumonte and 559 -which fold, and the newly designed 700 which is a street-rocket road bike oriented recumbent.

IceTrike Recumbents: The most agile of our trikes. These are low, fast and beautiful. This is a UK company that focuses on high-end construction and they absolutely deliver an engaging ride with confident steering and a high level of control.

IceTrike also offers something that no one else does: They have a configurator on their website where each trike can be custom designed according to cycling preferences. Want suspension? You just configure it that way before you buy it. Want lower gearing and a headrest and disk brakes but also tires that are slightly wider? Easy. You just set things up exactly how you like and the order comes to us.  It is built according to your wishes.

Of course if any of this sounds confusing or you’d just like to have a few questions answered, just click on our contact page and give us a call.

Hopefully, this helps you understand the major differences among the recumbent trikes we have.

See you on the trail!

For Ride-Ability: The Marin Kentfeild and Larkspur https://www.thebikeguyonthegreenway.com/2018/05/23/203/ Wed, 23 May 2018 17:24:26 +0000 http://www.thebikeguyonthegreenway.com/?p=203 If you’re not going to race and you just need a dependable, fun, affordable bike to ride, Marin has got you covered. These are two fantastic bikes for bike paths, suburbs or short commutes. If the whole point of riding a bike for you, is to get outside and just have fun on two wheels -without spending a fortune; the Larkspur and Kentfield are hard to beat. Both are hybrid bikes . Both are perfect for a relaxed, comfy, casual ride. And both are an obvious choice for short commutes and a collage campuses.

The laid back geometry lets you  take it easy and relax. Or, if you want a workout, these bikes will let you do some fitness riding too.

Their most important feature though, is ride-ability. I often talk to people about what kind of bike they’ll have when the race is over. Most race bikes are simply too harsh to ride around town with friends. But the Marin Kentfield and Larkspur are so much more ride-able, that  it’ll be the first choice for heading to the coffee shop or hitting the Greenway with friends. It’s the right choice for the camper, the condo or the beach house. An easygoing ride with a cushier seat and upright stance.

Renting bikes at the Bike Guy was voted one of the Bucket List’s top 40 best things in Raleigh. They considered Renting Bikes and riding the Neuse River Trail a must do.

Likewise, Trip Adviser posted the Neuse River Trail as one of Raleigh North Carolina’s main attractions.

We rent a lot of bikes to a lot of people. Sometimes, its a corporate event. On numerous occasions, its been wedding parties, family reunions, guests from out of town, bike dates and a lot of people who just want to add a little adventure to their weekend.

Our bike shop is close to several restaurants, coffee shops and picnic areas. The whole bike path runs along a gentle flowing river, under tree cover. The tree cover cuts down on wind in the winter and offers shade all summer. It’s nice.
